I know that many of you use the newest version of skype. It works but I prefer the one that they used to recommend for blind users on the site. Does anyone remember which version I mean? If so, what is it and where can I get it? I like the interface much better on that one. Thanks.

I'm using NVDA, so there are no scripts. Also, it's not just that. I don't like the new interface as much. lol I think you mean 8.3. I think that's the version I need. Thanks.

The version you're looking for is 3.8.

Last time I checked they removed it from the site.

If you want accessibility with NVDA and skype go to

http://skypetalking.googlecode.com

It should still work with 3.8.

If you don't care about the audio quality then 3.8 will do everything the latest version will.

I'm not quite sure of the URl www.oldversion.com might have it, if not, I'm sure some people around here might.

if you talking about the last one skype officially reckonmend for VI/blind is 3.8. however, i'm not certain if NVDA works with it. i've try using xp, skype 3.8, and NVDA, NVDA does not read the sub manu. that could be purely my pc problem. if you want earlier, you can go for skype2.5. that is very assessable, and that will serve with what you need i think. again, not sure how NVDA will handle it. perhaps the latest version of NVDA will cope better. mine is NVDA 2009 or whatever they called it by then.

oh, also, older skype take less space than the newer does, just something that add in to the advantage.

good luck.

3.8 is the version number, not 8.3. If you want to use 4.2, use skype talking, it'll work with jaws, window eyes, NVDA, and I think system access. Put your skype in compact view, and enable the accessibility menu items, and their ya go works perfectly.

Opa! I'll check that out. I have no clue why it says skype 10 and then my username and sometimes Skype 9 and my username. That's why I got confused over the versions. Thanks for the correction and the location.

When it says skype9 or skype10 or whatever it means that you have got 10 missed events.
These could be missed calls that you didn't answer, requests for somebody to add you to their contacts, birthdays, chat messages and much more.
Usually in the conversation tab you can find some of these events but unfortunately the list won't tell you which one is new and which one is not.
But for now 3.8 is the most accessible i think.
